We use the Conditional Moment Closure to model autoignition in engines and also for our own experiment. A multi-dimensional CMC code without operator splitting has been built and coupled to STAR-CD with very good results. The model is being expanded to second-order and efforts are under way to incorporate differential diffusion, which has been shown to have a serious effect on autoignition of hydrogen.
We have also used CMC to predict heptane autoignition in our autoignition experiment.
